Botanical Garden

When you visit Ooty, the first thing you will be asked to visit is the botanical gardens. Once inside, be prepared for a very long walk. You may be able to recognise the famous tree” out here where songs for many Indian films have been shot. It is an ideal place to relax in the lap of nature.

 

Ooty Lake

Ooty Lake is an artificial lake, formed by John Sullivan, the founder of Ooty, in 1824. The artificial lake was formed by the mountain streams flowing down Ooty valley. This lake stretches for about 2.75 km, from the central bus stand, in an irregular ‘L’ shape.

 

Doddabeta Peak

Doddabetta Peak is the highest vantage point in Ooty, located at around 2,623 m. This peak is regarded as one of the highest peaks in South India, which lies at the junction of the Eastern and Western Ghats.

 

Rose Garden

Rose Garden covers around 10 acres of land, near the Charring Cross at Vijayanagaram. This garden comprises terraces with pergolas, rose tunnels and bowers with rose creepers. There are around 3600 varieties of roses in this garden

 

Pykara Lake

Pykara Lake, a popular getaway from Ooty, is a placid lake located between the lush green valleys of Ooty. Surrounded by dense forests, there is a forest rest house in the area. Additionally, Pykara is known for its boat house, which is near the Pykara falls and Dam.

 

Nillgiri Mountain Railway

Any tourist who comes to visit Ooty wants to travel by this train. This train has an interesting history apart from the vintage charm that it exudes. The “Nilgiris toy train” connects Ooty to Mettupalyam at the foot of the Nilgiris.

 

Mudumalayi Wildlife Sanctuary

Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary or the Tiger Reserve is an adventurous sightseeing place in Ooty. It is situated in the Nilgiri hills, where the Western Ghats meet the Eastern Ghats. The entire sanctuary covers a wide area of 32,155 hectare.

 

Sim's Park

Sim’s Park in Coonoor exhibits approximately 1000 species of plants. This park is spread over 12 hectares of land and is located at the Northern side of Coonoor Railway Station. It has variable height, ranging from 1768 to 1798 metres above the sea level.

 

 

Dolphin's Nose

Dolphin's Nose is essentially a huge rock that resembles the nose of a dolphin. There are ravines on either side of Dolphin's Nose, including St. Catherine Falls and Coonoor stream meeting the Kotagiri stream. These water bodies are tributaries of the Bhavani River.

 

Thread Garden

A popular tourist spot and a haven for all those with creative fingers, this is an innovative and aesthetic creation of an artificial garden of plants and flowers all woven by thread. Surprisingly, no needles are used in the process.
